High Mitochondrial Haplotype Diversity Found in Three Pre-Hispanic Groups from Colombia

چکیده
The analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) hypervariable region (HVR) sequence data from ancient human remains provides valuable insights into the genetic structure and population dynamics populations. mtDNA is particularly useful in studying populations, because it maternally inherited has a higher mutation rate compared to nuclear DNA. To determine three Colombian pre-Hispanic populations compare them with current we determined haplotypes bone by sequencing several segments. A wide variety polymorphisms were obtained 33 samples. Our results support high heterogeneity among Colombia.

A Reduced Number of mtSNPs Saturates Mitochondrial DNA Haplotype Diversity of Worldwide Population Groups
BACKGROUND The high levels of variation characterising the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) molecule are due ultimately to its high average mutation rate; moreover, mtDNA variation is deeply structured in different populations and ethnic groups. There is growing interest in selecting a reduced number of mtDNA single nucleotide polymorphisms (mtSNPs) that account for the maximum level of discrimination...
متن کاملHigh genetic diversity on a sample of pre-Columbian bone remains from Guane territories in northwestern Colombia.
Ancient DNA was recovered from 17 individuals found in a rock shelter in the district of "La Purnia" (Santander, Colombia). This region is the homeland of pre-Columbian Guane, whom spread over the "Río Suarez" to the "Río de Oro", and were surrounded to the west by the Central Andes, south and east by foothills of Eastern Andes, and north by the "Chicamocha" river canyon. Guanes established in ...
متن کاملA Pre-Hispanic Head
This report on a male head revealed biologic rhythms, as gleaned from hydrogen isotope ratios in hair, consistent with a South-American origin and Atomic Mass Spectrometry radiocarbon dating (AMS) compatible with the last pre-Hispanic period (1418-1491 AD, 95.4% probability). Biopsies showed exceptionally well-preserved tissues. The hair contained high levels of toxic elements (lead, arsenic an...
متن کاملEmissions from Pre-Hispanic Metallurgy in the South American Atmosphere
Metallurgical activities have been undertaken in northern South America (NSA) for millennia. However, it is still unknown how far atmospheric emissions from these activities have been transported. Since the timing of metallurgical activities is currently estimated from scarce archaeological discoveries, the availability of reliable and continuous records to refine the timing of past metal depos...
